T & J Moving and Storage of Deltona FL

Posted By: Mike

Be Warned!! I contacted T & J Moving and Storage of Deltona FL a couple of weeks before my move and set up a time and got a price quote. I even spoke with the owner and got a good feeling about his company. I contracted with him and gave a deposit. The day before I was to be moved, I received a call from the owner wanting my information again. I gave it to him and he said that his crew would be at my residence between 08:00 and 0900. I received a call from him at 08:20 stating that I would need to pay for his travel time to my house. When I contracted him through his employee I was told that I would be billed only from my door to door. I really didn't have a choice (needed to be out) so I told him that I would split his drive time with him. Then they never showed up. I got the run around and had to find another mover on the spur of the moment. I found All My Sons. They showed up and completed my move. To be honest I will never use a moving company again. My advice, rent a truck and get some friends.

Discover Moving & Storage of Charlotte NC

Posted By: Katie

An initial estimate of $6153 was made over the phone by Discover Moving. It was based on $.54 per pound, estimated weight of 8702 lbs, and included $1200 for packing. We signed the Moving Quote a few weeks before the move would take place. However, when the movers arrived on Wednesday, May 14 at 1:30pm, they indicated that it would cost somewhat more, but said they couldn’t provide a final estimate until they started loading the truck. After loading the truck late that evening, the foreman, Roni, quoted me a revised price of $15,000 and indicated that if they itemized everything the following morning it would be much more (the foreman indicated that $15,000 was a “deal”). He also requested a $600 tip for him and his crew, stating that if I help him out, he would help me out. I refused to accept the new price of $15,000 and instead called the police. The officer arrived and said that there were two options: (1) unload the truck and pay the movers for packing materials and labor or (2) agree on a new price. The officer then left. At 11:00pm my husband and I, now exhausted and worried about our baby, agreed to pay $9000. I signed the Bill of Lading, gave the foreman a personal check for $4500, verified that this was a flat fee and that there would be no more charges added on later based on weight or other obscure details, and the truck drove away. The next afternoon at 3:00pm, the owner of the moving company, Lior Dangoor, called from Charlotte and said they would not do the move for less than $11,000. He said that the truck weighed 278 lbs more than our original (phone) estimate of 8702 lbs. I was then given two options: (1) come to Charlotte and gather our possessions for an undisclosed sum or (2) agree to a new price of $11,567.85. The owner indicated that the foreman who negotiated the $9000 price was not authorized to do so and that the contract that I had signed the night before was invalid. At this point, fearing extortion, we stopped payment on our check for $4500. Anthem Claim Management was apparently hired by Discover Moving & Storage, Inc. and on Friday, May 16, Joshua, who works for (or possibly owns) Anthem Claim Management faxed me the paperwork that Discover Moving & Storage, Inc. had but did not leave with me on May 14. It seems that I did in fact sign some documents for Packing Materials Charges and a Revised Written Estimate. However, these documents were blank when I was instructed to sign them within 30 minutes of the crew arriving at my house, and I never saw them again until they were faxed to me on Friday, May 16. Therefore I never knew how they were calculating their charges. On Monday, May 19 we were contacted by Mr. Dangoor again and he requested the $11,567.85 for our possessions. My husband negotiated with him, and they agreed on a total remaining balance of $8,750. I asked him to fax me something in writing. He sent me a handwritten document with his signature cut off of the bottom. I typed up a document similar to his but with more details so that he could not charge us for anything extra. I sent the document to Mr. Dangoor via e-mail on Wednesday, May 21. On Thursday, May 22 I had not heard back from him and called Discover Moving & Storage, Inc. No one answered the phone and I left a voicemail message. Finally at 4:59pm Mr. Dangoor called me back and said that he had been speaking with someone at the DOT and that legally he could not give me a discount and that the final amount due would have to be the $9,000 that we agreed to on May 14. He said that he did not send the packing materials list to the person at DOT because if he did he would have to charge us $11,500, so I should not be confused when I see that the packing is only $3,000 on the contract. Mr. Dangoor also told me that he was advised by the person at the DOT to ship our possessions to Arizona and put them in storage near our new house; when we finally pay him our outstanding balance we would be sent the key for the storage facility and we could unload our possessions ourselves. However, Mr. Dangoor said that he would not do that because it’s “not very nice.” In spite of our conversation and the amount discussed, the fax we received is asking for the inflated price of $15,732 for our things – an amount that was calculated after the truck left my house on May 14. Furthermore, the revised written estimate sent to me by Anthem Claim Management has been altered since it was faxed to us on May 16; reasons for the rescission of the original estimate have been added to my signed copy without my authorization. These include marking the revised estimate as binding; indicating packing was the reason for rescission; indicating weight was a reason for rescission; and filling in the original dollar estimate in the box for the original weight estimate and forging my initials next to the number. Mr. Dangoor also states in his cover letter of the fax that if we do not pay the full amount (whatever that is) he will be putting our things in storage in Arizona, as stated above, exactly as he told me he would not do. I was contacted again by Mr. Dangoor at 12am Sunday, May 25. He left a voicemail message stating that he is still planning on having our things in Arizona on Tuesday, May 27, but that he needs the $4500 initial payment and that we will pay the other $4500 upon delivery, before the truck is ever opened. He goes on to say that if we do not pay in full he will put our things in storage near our house in Arizona as stated above and in his fax from May 22. Because of the 110% rule, my husband and I believe that we should not have been legally charged more than $6768.30 in order to get our things packed, loaded, shipped to us, unloaded and put together as stated in our original Moving Quote. Discover Moving & Storage, Inc. had a reasonable estimate of our household weight (they were only off by about 3%) and they had an exhaustive inventory list that we spent hours compiling. We have now received our things and paid $8,750 in addition to the $495.28 deposit that we paid on March 28. Several items have been damaged, and we still feel that we more than overpaid and were definitely taken advantage of. Legally we should be compensated $2,476.98 plus the cost of all damages.

USA All Points Moving and Storage of Maryland

Posted By: Vivian Williams

Being in the military for over five years I have moved on several occasions, but by far this was the worst move I have ever done. The company was very unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. On my move day I was charged for a 3 man move but only two men worked. I was informed by the supervisor of the move that the company is losing money with my move and at that point he proceeded to add on ridiculous charges to my bill. I contacted the company on numerous occasions to file a complaint. The first attempt I was given the wrong main office number, then I was told the main office staff took a special holiday. The next few attempts were with the company I set up the move with; I was given false information on how to file a complaint by Yosi Biton. I talked with Ms. Irina the lady I set up the move with and informed her of my situation and how I wanted to file a complaint. She stated she would call me back after she gets the details of the move and she never did. The last attempts after I stated my name Irina hang up on me. I was very unhappy with the move, because I feel I was over priced. My property fit into a 10 x 10 storage unit, I packed everything myself, and the travel distance was less than five miles away. The company is USA all points moving & storage in Maryland.

Done Rite Van Lines of Chicago

The most horrible movers ever. They were supposed to come at 9 am - but came at 9 :45 - and charged me from 9 am. They say they were looking for my apartment for 45 mins. The foreman was so grumpy the minute he came he started shouting at the door – oh it’s so difficult here - there is a car on the road etc...I went down and sorted the issue. They took more than 2 hrs to load a small 1 bedroom apartment. When I asked them to hurry up in the middle because the time was up for my booking of the freight elevator, the foreman shouted at me saying - we are working like dogs and we can’t hurry up any faster. They couldn’t fit my couch in the other apartment and left it outside. They already asked me for money before moving in the house.... and then they left the couch outside. I called another movers and they moved the couch in within 10 minutes. Please don’t call these guys ever - I had a very tough time and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone I am a doctor by profession and expect professionalism in every aspect- these guys are not professional at all!

Victory Moving and Storage of Brooklyn NY

This company moved me, and they did not honor a thing that they had guaranteed. They used a rental truck (Enterprise). They broke furniture, lamps, etc.. They searched through things and stole things from me Including furniture and other valuables. They held my belongings hostage for months and would not give back until I paid them additional money. The idiots who moved me, did not speak very good English, and DEMANDED A TIP of $1,000 as well. I fed them and bought them soft drinks as well. Then they refused to answer any of my calls or e-mails. I would NOT recommend these crooks. They have an office in CA as well. I understand that they were fined in the State of Utah.

Ace Relocation of Long Beach, CA

Posted By: Christina Yeung

First off, the Estimated Price and Final Cost I provided was NOT for Ace Relocation, but for the company I finally used. This is from the email I wrote to Ace Relocation Systems, Inc. (189 W Victoria Street, Long Beach, CA 90805/ Tel: 800-321-8104) and it reflects how I feel. To Ace Relocation Systems, I want you to know that I am very disappointed in your service and have absolutely no faith in your company because you can't even do something as simple as keeping a survey appointment. Not only has your rep, 1) change the scheduled appointment last minute, 2) DID NOT call me back promptly: If I call her back ON HER CELLPHONE (which she gave me the number to, asking me to call her back) in response to her LAST MINUTE request to change the appointment, I don't care if she's not on the clock anymore, it's her responsibility to call me back that same day, (which by the way is the day before the scheduled day) to reschedule, NOT 2 hours before our original appointment time. And then when I call her again (maybe half an hour after she called me) at 11am (because I realized I made a mistake and I needed to reschedule), I should NOT have to call her again at around 3p or 4p to leave her a message, and her finally getting back to me at 5p. 3) And finally, she ultimately failed to call me back, AT ALL, when she said she would call me the following day to confirm a new appointment time for the survey. No, I didn't try calling your rep again, because a) she said she'll call me, and b) honestly, I had my doubts about your reliability with your rep's last minute schedule changes, and inability to call me back promptly. So I was waiting to see if she'll actually call me when she said she would, it was almost a test of your company's reliability. If your company's reps can't even keep a simple survey appointment straight, how do you expect potential customers to feel about your ability to keep a MOVING appointment? That was from a letter of complaint I sent to Ace Relocations, and I hope this conveyed how disappointed and frustrated I was with Ace Relocations and its rep. Like I said, I did not use Ace Relocation, the cost of the move (both estimated and final) is the flat rate cost of the moving company I finally used (check them out at www.LuckyMoving.com).

Moving Van Lines of Hollywood FL

Posted By: Ken Jones

Move from Gainesville FL to Clearwater Beach FL

We were in the process of moving my daughter’s large furniture pieces from Gainesville to Clearwater. We contacted Moving Van Lines website and spelled out each piece of furniture we were moving and described where we are moving from and where we were going, including the addresses. The Gainesville townhouse is 2 floors with only one bedroom, a living room, and dining room. The Clearwater condo is on the second floor with an elevator and a stairwell. All of our valuables, electronics, clothes, small appliances, etc. had already been moved. We were only looking to move several large pieces, and the entire move, including each piece of furniture was described in detail. A lady named Meital contacted us by phone to further discuss the details of the move, and then forwarded us a “Service Quote”. The service quote was for an amount of $440.00, which included 4 hours of labor ($260.00), a lump sum travel amount ($130.00), and fuel and mileage ($50.00). After I received the quote, I contacted Meital by phone and questioned her about the rates, and she indicated that the 4 hours included 2 hours for loading, and 2 hours for unloading, and that the travel time was a lump sum amount that included travel from Gainesville to Clearwater. She indicated that the way there would be no question as to travel time. That seemed to be a reasonable amount, and we then sent her a deposit of $100.00. At about 8:30 AM, on May 21, 2008, the day of the move, the movers called to ask if they could bring an extra person for an additional $15.00 per hour, saying that we would probably save money since they could complete the move in a shorter period of time, and so we agreed. The movers arrived at our Gainesville townhouse at 10:45 AM in an unmarked white step van. They left the townhouse at 12:05 PM with the furniture. They were very slow, and we had to tell them to pick up the pace several times. They over taped the sofas, and found any way possible to stall, but we were still within our budget. They arrived at our Clearwater condominium at 4:25 PM, four hours 20 minutes later. According to Mapquest (which is slow) it indicates a maximum travel time of 2.5 hours, and I have made the trip numerous times, and it has never taken over 2.5 hours. We had just made the trip as well. However, it should not have mattered because we were on a lump sum travel amount. When the movers arrived, they wanted us to approve a contract modification before they would unload our furniture. They said we were provided incorrect information on our contract, and that the contract was only an estimate. They said that they needed an extra 4 hours of overtime at $80.00 per hour, a “long move” extra cost of $100.00, an “elevator” extra, plus packing materials and a box. The revised total cost was going to be $900.00. They said they were delayed by traffic, but I saw their van parked across the street at a gas station for at least 15 minutes before they called to say they had arrived. I immediately suspected fraud, and called Meital, who then promptly switched me over to a lady named Randi. After arguing with her for about 30 minutes off and on, and with the mover, I made them an offer to pay them a total of $600.00, just to get them to unload our furniture. She refused my offer, hung up on me, and the driver then left the premises with our furniture. She was very rude, and I could tell immediately that this company was a scam. We called the Clearwater Police Department on May 21, but the movers had already left the site with our furniture. On May 22, 2008, we went to the Clearwater Police Station, and an officer Morero (sp) called Randi, and she was belligerent to him as well. She indicated that she would accept $600.00, but we would have to pick up our furniture at an undisclosed location, and only after we pay them in cash, deposited in their bank. We would have to rent a U-Haul trailer, load up our furniture, move it to Clearwater, and then unload it ourselves. We do not even know where our furniture is. Please forward this information to all interested parties. They are a scam operation and should be put out of business.
